NANAN patisserie designed by BUCK.STUDIO – a concept so refreshingly playful and fun. With the name ‘Nanan’ meaning ’sweet meats’ in French, the design is certainly sweet, but it’s also joyful, pretty and sophisticated.
An award-winning Poland-based design studio, BUCK.STUDIO specialise in hospitality and retail interior design, often taking a comprehensive approach to the design process. In bringing the NANAN brand to life, they developed a concept spanning the name and branding, interior design and execution, furniture and lighting design and all the visual ID.
The speciality of the patisserie, the éclair, has inspired the interior design and visual identity of NANAN. The oval shape of the éclair reflects in the central island counter with a display that operates almost like a glass cabinet in a jeweller’s shop. The long oval form also allows for visitors to flow through the space or admire individual confectionary works. Eclairs have also inspired the bespoke design of lamps and other details of the interior such as mirrors, door handles, coat hangers and veneer perforation.
As well as defining the central brand motifs, this comprehensive branding approach works to bring the different elements together to create a memorable experience. Individual elements that might seem intense on their own, like the pink velvet walls or arched doorways, come together as part of the bigger picture. But still, the interior aesthetic fits a minimalist sensibility by highlighting one or two core elements (in this case, the musky pink hero colour and the velvet and brass details). Led by the soft blush-pink velvet walls the design evokes a dream-like ambience, aided by delicate details like the brass fixtures, custom lighting and arched doorways.
